Learning how to deal with Millennials as they attend EDM shows has brought many new safety mitigation techniques to festivals, including peer counselors. Peer counselors have proven to be an effective means of spotting and connecting with festival attendees that might be frightened to speak directly to security or medical personnel due to their state of inebriation.
North Coast Music Festival has come up with a unique way of deploying peer counselors… they put some of them on stilts! This solves two issues. The first being that the field of view for someone on stilts above the crowd will allow them to see down into the crowds and detect someone that may be down and needs assistance. The second issue is that if someone dressed in safety orange on stilts approaches someone in an altered state, they may think that this is all part of the trip that they are on.
